Your files are processed locally in your browser whenever possible and are not permanently stored.

How it works

  1. 1Select a JPG, JPEG, PNG or GIF file.
  2. 2Adjust the quality slider — 75–85% is usually invisible.
  3. 3Compare the original and the WebP preview.
  4. 4Download the converted file.

Features

  • Real WebP encoding through the browser's own Canvas API.
  • Quality control from 30% to 100%.
  • Before-and-after size with the percentage saved.
  • Clear message if a browser cannot encode WebP.
  • No uploads, no accounts, no watermarks.

Examples

  • A 2.4 MB JPG photo at 80% quality → around 480 KB
  • A 900 KB PNG screenshot → around 120 KB
  • A 1.2 MB product photo → around 260 KB

Why convert to WebP

WebP typically produces files 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality, and far smaller than PNG for photographic content. Smaller images mean faster pages, better Core Web Vitals and less mobile data — which is why every current browser supports the format.

When to keep the original

  • Print work, where you want the untouched original.
  • Platforms that reject WebP uploads — some still prefer JPG.
  • Images with hard-edged transparency that you have already optimised as PNG.

Tips

  • Convert after resizing so you are not compressing pixels you will discard.
  • Compare the two previews at full size before committing.
  • For batches, use the Image Compressor instead.
