How to Choose a TikTok Username You Won't Regret
Your username appears under every video, in every share, in every search. Changing it later costs you the recognition you built and breaks every link people saved.
What makes a handle work
- Short enough to read at a glance — under 15 characters is comfortable.
- Pronounceable, so people can recommend you out loud.
- Free of doubled letters and lookalike characters that invite typos.
- Broad enough to survive a change of topic within your niche.
Patterns that scale
- Name + niche: annaedits, samonfilm.
- Niche + role: thelensguy, ceramicstudio.
- Two real words: slowmornings, quietkitchen.
- Avoid year numbers and version numbers — they date instantly.
When it is already taken
Add a word that describes what you do rather than a number: “anna.edits” reads better than “anna1994”. A single dot or underscore is acceptable; two are hard to dictate.
Check the same handle on Instagram and YouTube before committing, even if you do not plan to post there yet.
Before you commit
Say the handle out loud, type it from memory an hour later, and search it on TikTok to make sure it does not collide with an established account in your niche.
