Social Media Image Sizes: The Only List You Need

Every platform re-encodes what you upload. Giving it the size it expects is the cheapest quality improvement available, and it takes seconds.

Instagram

  • Square post: 1080 × 1080 (1:1)
  • Portrait post: 1080 × 1350 (4:5) — the tallest allowed in feed
  • Story and Reel: 1080 × 1920 (9:16)
  • Profile picture: 320 × 320

TikTok and YouTube

  • TikTok video: 1080 × 1920 (9:16)
  • YouTube Shorts: 1080 × 1920, up to 2160 × 3840
  • YouTube thumbnail: 1280 × 720 (16:9)
  • YouTube video: 1920 × 1080

Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn and X

  • Facebook link image: 1200 × 630
  • Pinterest pin: 1000 × 1500 (2:3)
  • LinkedIn post image: 1200 × 627
  • X post image: 1600 × 900

Resizing without losing quality

Downscaling is essentially lossless; upscaling never adds detail. Start from the largest original you have, resize to the target dimensions, and only then compress.

Crop when the subject is central and fit-with-padding when the whole frame matters, such as for text graphics and product shots.
