Social Media Image Sizes: The Only List You Need
Every platform re-encodes what you upload. Giving it the size it expects is the cheapest quality improvement available, and it takes seconds.
- Square post: 1080 × 1080 (1:1)
- Portrait post: 1080 × 1350 (4:5) — the tallest allowed in feed
- Story and Reel: 1080 × 1920 (9:16)
- Profile picture: 320 × 320
TikTok and YouTube
- TikTok video: 1080 × 1920 (9:16)
- YouTube Shorts: 1080 × 1920, up to 2160 × 3840
- YouTube thumbnail: 1280 × 720 (16:9)
- YouTube video: 1920 × 1080
Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn and X
- Facebook link image: 1200 × 630
- Pinterest pin: 1000 × 1500 (2:3)
- LinkedIn post image: 1200 × 627
- X post image: 1600 × 900
Resizing without losing quality
Downscaling is essentially lossless; upscaling never adds detail. Start from the largest original you have, resize to the target dimensions, and only then compress.
Crop when the subject is central and fit-with-padding when the whole frame matters, such as for text graphics and product shots.
