Instagram Bio Ideas: 150 Characters, Used Properly
Instagram gives you 150 characters, a name field that is searchable, and one link. Most accounts waste all three.
Use the name field for search
The name field — not the handle — is indexed by Instagram's search. “Sara | Meal Prep” is findable in a way “sara.cooks” is not. Put the topic there and save bio characters for everything else.
Bio formulas
- What you do + who for + proof: “Pilates for post-natal recovery · 8 years teaching”.
- Offer + instruction: “Free 5-day meal plan — link below”.
- Brand + place + shipping: “Hand-poured candles · Rabat · ships in 48h”.
- Category + cadence: “Film photography · new roll every Sunday”.
What to leave out
- Quotes that could sit on any account.
- Long emoji strings that break screen readers.
- Every platform you have ever joined.
- Vague words: creator, enthusiast, storyteller.
Line breaks
Instagram keeps line breaks entered in the app or pasted from a notes app. Three or four short lines are easier to scan than one long sentence — but check it on a phone before you settle.
